Description
Horses as symbols of freedom, strength and joy. Horses as a best friend. Horses as beauty.
When I was kid, the only thing I wanted was a horse. With three kids in a suburban home, however, we couldn't keep one - so I dreamed. My father told me I could get one when he finished paying taxes. My friends and I wanted a horse; indeed, we wanted to BE horses. So we grew our hair and put it in ponytails, running around the neighborhood neighing and galloping.
This pastel drawing is an ode to those moments. Our imaginations ran wild - like a blue horse with golden highlights. I focused on the detail of the forelock, mane and tail - because we were so obsessed with our own horse hair. And the canter! The most natural of gaits for the horse; the freest and most powerful of all. To ride it relaxed is so be on a swaying cloud where the horse can feel your every move and you theirs.
