Thomas Jefferson's White Oak Tree On The Way To James Madison's For Afternoon Tea
Artist
Catherine Twomey
Medium
Painting - Oil On Maple Board
Description
An ancient white oak tree, hundreds of years old, on the way from Thomas Jefferson's Monticello to James Madison's Montpelier. It is a rare oak with a huge tulip-shaped trunk. I was lucky enough to paint it before it was fenced off. In oil, 12" W X 24" H on gessoed maple board.

“Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.” .... Congratulations on your recent sale on an wonderful work.
Catherine Twomey replied:
I like that quote! It was true at the time I painted this - because this painting reflected my over-controlling approach to painting at the time. I've loosened up a bit since then, happily, but still - I loved this tree and the history behind it. Thanks, and take care.
